Hi, I’m Dr. Jonathon Pinnow and I’m Dr. Steph Pinnow, your chiropractors for Sciatica in Sun Prairie, WI.
We’re really excited to talk to you today about what we do, to not only to diagnose, but then treat and eliminate sciatica in your life, and in everybody’s life.
So, the first thing that we do when you come in, is that we want to sit down, we want to talk to you. We want to find out, maybe when your sciatica began, has it been on and off your whole life, is it just recent after maybe a trauma, like a car accident or a fall?
It’s important to know the history behind your symptoms, when they started, how they started, and then also the duration of how long they’ve been going on.
Sciatica Symptoms Sun Prairie WI
Once we understand that, then we really want to find out what are your symptoms?
Is it a burning, is it a shooting down that leg?
How intense is it on a pain scale, and then what are the things you’re doing at home?
All these things, as we’re going through them, we’ll ask you questions and they’ll lead us to a really good idea of what to do next to help you at the very best.
And so, after we’ve going through all these questions, we’ve gotten together and collected all this information with you, then we’ll go to the second step.
Sciatica Chiropractic Exam in Sun Prairie, WI
Yes, and the second step is a very specific examination. So that generally means we’ll do some sort of range of motion. You know a lot of times people will come in and they won’t be able to put on their socks and shoes, so I want to make sure that we’ve got a good baseline for what you look like at that particular moment when you come in, so then we know when you make progress, just how far you’ve come.
We’ll also make sure that we do orthopedic and neurologic tests, because sometimes, you know, pain that travels down the leg can seem like it’s sciatica, but it might actually be a disc.
So we want to make sure that we are ruling any of those other conditions in or out. As long as we’re doing this exam, then we’ll be able to make sure that we, like I said, have a good baseline for what you look like in this particular moment, and do things like palpate your muscles, see what one of the muscles in the butt, the piriformis, is that maybe causing your sciatic pain, and get a good idea of where your subluxations are just by feel.
So the exam is super important and it helps to shape what the creation of your care plan will look like.
Yeah. And so after we’ve completed the examination, the next step is to ahead and look at x-rays.
The only way we can be extremely specific, is if we take an x-ray and we know exactly what’s going on inside of you.
And so, we treat each person individually here in the office, and the x-rays are a big part of how we are able to do that. Because we’re going to look at you through those x-rays, but then we’re also going to have you do some motion with those x-rays to see how you’re performing in the real world, you know.
You’re not just going to stand static with these x-rays, we want to see how things are moving, because then we can find the areas of the spine that aren’t moving, i.e., what we call a subluxation, and that might be the area that’s causing some of the sciatic symptoms that you’re experiencing.
And once we find it, then we know we can help you, because that’s what we correct.
We correct those subluxations, we restore that normal biomechanics and motion to the joint, and then we get rid of that sciatic pain or symptoms that you’re feeling, and we’re just really excited when we’re able to do that.
So, x-rays, only way we can be specific, and then also individual with each person.
Sciatic Exercises From Your Chiropractor in Sun Prairie, WI
So, next Steph. So that’s what we’re doing in the office here, but we also need you to pull your weight at home. And what that means, is that we will have some specific exercises for you to do, based on what your sciatic pain is caused from.
So, for example, if you know, maybe if you’re a pregnant woman, and it’s the second or third trimester, and you’re really feeling that sciatic pain, your exercises are going to look very different from somebody who maybe had a slip and fall, or a car accident that caused their sciatic pain, or their low back pain.
So very custom to what your situation is, and again, taking into account what kind of things are you doing at home, what does your job look like, may any extracurriculars that we need to modify or take a look at to see what exactly we can do to keep your progress at home.
So, every person that comes in here gets their own care plan, they get their own exercise plan.
Again, making sure that you’re working with us, and it’s not just us doing everything. You do have to take some sort of choice and participation in your own healthcare.
So, with sciatica, we are super excited to help you. It’s, I would say, one of our favorite things to treat.
For sure. Because we know how painful and debilitating it can be.
So we’re looking forward to meeting you and helping you as well.
